Gerald J. Prokopowicz is the author of "Did Lincoln Own Slaves? and Other Frequently Asked Questions about Abraham Lincoln" (2008) and "All for the Regiment: The Army of the Ohio, 1861-1862" (2001) as well as numerous articles and reviews.

He is a native of Detroit who received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. in history from Harvard University. In 1993 he became the Lincoln Scholar and Director of Public Programs at the Lincoln Museum in Fort Wayne, Indiana, then the world's largest museum dedicated to the life and times of Abraham Lincoln. Dr. Prokopowicz is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission and the Lincoln Forum. He is currently chair of the history department at
East Carolina University.
