Paul Finkelman will begin serving as the President William McKinley Distinguished Professor of Law and Public Policy and Senior Fellow in the Government Law Center at Albany Law School in July 2006. He is currently the Chapman Distinguished Professor at the University of Tulsa College of Law. He received his Ph.D. in American History from the University of Chicago and was later a Fellow in Law and Humanities at Harvard Law School. He is the author or editor of more than 20 books and has lectured in Europe, Asia, and South America, as well as throughout the United States and Canada. He has written books on John Brown, the Dred Scott Decision, Thomas Jefferson, the coming of the Civil War and American slavery. He is the co-author of A March of Liberty: A Constitutional History of the United States and is the co-editor of the Library of Congress Civil War Desk Reference. In addition to his work on U.S. history, Professor Finkelman is an expert on baseball and law, and has written widely on this subject. He has published numerous articles and guest editorials in such papers as the New York Times, the Baltimore Sun, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and USA Today.
