
Rosalia Early Learning Center read stories about Abraham Lincoln's early life and his time as the 16th president of the United States.
Children learned of Lincoln's statue from the Spokesman Review newspaper and from Daughters of the American Revolution member Annie Pierce, dressed in traditional time period clothing.
On February 16 Children discussed their clothing and how different her dress looked then their clothes. In addition during Lincoln week of February 9-13th Lincoln pennies were examined by the 4-5 year old children and they discovered Lincoln's picture on the coins. Pictures were colored, cut and glued and formed a book for each child. The school book consisted of pictures of Lincoln and the pennies and was on display at the center, along with the certificate.
Several children attended the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsored Lincoln wreath laying tribute at the site of Lincoln Statue in Spokane, Washington on February 12, 2009. The color guard consisted of the Washington State Civil War Re-enactors and Veterans of Foreign Wars color guard.
David Condon, the district director for 5th district Washington State Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers presented a plaque with our Lincoln activities that was read into the Congressional Record on February 12, 2009.
