Perkiomen Valley Middle School East
To celebrate Lincoln’s legacy, the students at Perkiomen Valley Middle School East learned about the concept of character through our anti-bullying program. Class meetings were held that focused on values and quotes of Abraham Lincoln. Students were asked to explain how these quotes coincide with our anti-bullying philosophy.
The students took part in a “One Brush Stroke” Abraham Lincoln portrait. Working with their art teacher, Mr. Libby, each student placed one stroke of paint on a canvas. After 250+ strokes, the finished piece was a beautiful portrait of Abraham Lincoln.
Mr. James Getty, nationally renowned Lincoln impersonator, presented assemblies to our students and staff on April 16th. He related stories of President Abraham Lincoln’s life, shared famous quotes, and described to the students how his character was tested during the Civil War. In addition, our community was invited to attend “An Evening with the 16th President by James Getty” on April 15th.
Finally, six students at East presented to our student body a choral reading of Walt Whitman’s “Oh, Captain!, My Captain!”.
