Madison School District 321 spent five months planning and participating in Lincoln Legacy activities for our students and community.

 Lincoln Legacy:  “Charity for All”
 Grades 5-12

Historians name the following four basic character traits that defined Abraham Lincoln as a person and as a politician: patriotism, a passion to be good and honest, respect for the law, and a burning ambition.

January 8th:  Overview for all Schools

School-wide Announcement about the Lincoln Legacy: Charity for All

  • Bicentennial – 200  years birthday of Lincoln
  • Theme:  Lincoln Legacy:  Charity for All
  • School/Classroom participation activities:  Thursday focus:  January 8, 15, 22, 29, February 5, 12
  • Lincoln Legacy Family Packet Sent Home
  • Possible Lincoln look-alike day – school wide
  • Contests:  Essay, Poetry, two dimensional, and three dimensional entries
  • “Lincoln and Idaho” Museum Exhibit:  Madison Middle School Library:  January 5-23.  Call to arrange visits for classroom visits.  Beverly Murdock 313-3320.  Public invited throughout the week days:  8:00-4:00.
  • All schools Libraries will have Lincoln displays
  • Chamber of Commerce participation:  quilt displays, business displays, contest prizes
  • Community celebration:  February 12th

The following provides a possible Thursday focus if you want to outline activities this way for your school and/or classroom:  If you have others you want to use, please do.  These are just helps as needed.

Lincoln and Idaho exhibit displayed at our Madison Middle

 

Madison High School art students displaying their collective "Torn Newspaper" project of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. The students each had a strip or panel of the picture to create with torn newspapers. They had to work carefully with two other students that had the adjacent panels to theirs. They students were very proud of their project and displayed it at the Lincoln Legacy community night.
