"Abraham Lincoln: A Man of His Times, A Man of All Times"
More books have been written about Lincoln than any other American, yet public knowledge about our most famous president is dominated by a series of iconic images. Drawing on recent scholarship, this traveling exhibition encourages a deeper understanding of Lincoln's life, policies, accomplishments, and legacy. This exhibition explores fundamental questions raised by Lincoln's life, such as: how a self-educated lawyer with little administrative experience guided a divided nation through the crises of secession and Civil War, why Lincoln championed emancipation, how Lincoln's capacity for intellectual and moral growth shaped his presidency, and how his legacy changed the nation.
This exhibit is presented by the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College and sponsored by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Musselman Library, Gettysburg College
This event is endorsed by the PA ALBC.

"A Reading for Lincoln"
Gettysburg College's Musselman Library presents a special dramatic and musical tribute to Lincoln. Richard Sautter appears as James Murdoch, one of the most well-known actors in mid-19th century America. During the Civil War, Murdoch gave benefit readings in order to raise money for various soldiers' causes, and also performed for Lincoln and other members of his administration. We re-create this reading for Lincoln, adding period songs presented by noted Broadway performer Billy Vitelli (Grease, Beauty and the Beast), and Dr. Scott Crowne from the College's Sunderman Conservatory of Music. Musselman Library Main Floor Apse, 12:00 p.m. For more information, contact Tim Sestrick at (717) 337-7045 or tsestric@gettysburg.edu, or visit the Musselman Library website: http://www.gettysburg.edu/library.
