Karen Churchard is the Assistant Deputy Director of the Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT), the state agency charged with branding Arizona on a global scale, positioning Arizona as a premier leisure travel destination and bringing new dollars into the state.  Karen’s primary responsibility is serving as the Director of the Arizona Centennial Commission (2012) as well as overseeing AOT events and sponsorships.

Prior to her current role, Karen was President and CEO of the Arizona Tourism Alliance, she also owned her own business where she was contracted to prepare the successful bid to host Super Bowl XLII in 2008, assisted in the management operations for Arizona’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon and Post-Race Concert, and was a consultant to the City of Glendale. 

Before owning her business, she worked for 21 years at the Fiesta Bowl overseeing all operational aspects of the two collegiate football games, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and Insight Bowl, as well the 60+ Fiesta Bowl activities as the Bowl’s vice president of operations.

Karen has been involved in various organizations including the Arizona Tourism Advisory Council, Arizona Film Commission, and Phoenix Pride Commission.  She is also a Past Chair and Board of Director of the International Festivals and Events Association, a 2,000 member worldwide association.

A graduate of Northern Arizona University, Karen resides in Phoenix, Arizona.
